Introducing The Doctors

Dr James Ferguson

Dr James Ferguson M.A. MRCP MRCGP ILTM

Qualified 1976, GP at Midway Surgery since 1982. Throughout GP career has had an interest in medical education. GP trainer since 1986, GP appraiser and GP tutor for St Albans and Harpenden since 1998.

Clinical interests include musculoskeletal medicine and minor surgery. Has been practising acupuncture and acuFlexology since 1994 and continues to develop these skills.

Married with three grown up daughters and a rebellious garden. Enjoys swimming, cycling and walking in the hills with his friends and relations.

 
Dr Jill Barlett
Dr Jill Bartlett

Dr Jill Bartlett qualified from the Royal Free Hospital, London in 1980. She spent 5 years working there and in other hospitals followed by GP training and various posts in general practice, family planning and fertility in London and Australia.

After a belated “gap year” trekking, locuming and white-water rafting she spent a year as a locum in Bethnal Green, London before coming to Midway in 1989.

She enjoys all aspects of general practice, continuing her interest in women’s medicine as Clinical advisor to St Albans and Harpenden PCT and as LMC representative for the Hertfordshire Cervical Cytology Group and West Herts Maternity Services Liaison Committee. She has a regular gynaecology clinic at the practice.

She teaches medical students when they are attached to the practice and was on the Professional Executive Committee of the PCT locally until 2003.

She is married with three daughters and still enjoys “the outdoors” when possible.
 
Dr Michael Cannell
Dr Michael Cannell MBBS DRCOG MRCGP MFHom CoBC (BMAS)

Dr Michael Cannell studied medicine at The Royal London Hospital from 1974 to 1979 having read natural sciences at Pembroke College, Cambridge.  His postgraduate clinical work, over three years, included casualty experience, general medicine, rheumatology and surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics (including community paediatrics). He gained his DRCOG, DFFP and MRCGP. He worked for seven years as a busy GP in an inner city area of Portsmouth before joining the partnership of Midway Surgery in 1991.

He continued to develop his interests in information technology as applied to medicine and the areas of allergy, nutritional medicine and in the last fifteen years, homeopathic medicine and the last five years, acupuncture.

In 1998 he gained his MFHom and is on the specialist register with the Faculty of Homeopathy with recognition from the main insurance providers such as BUPA and AXA/PPP.  He works part time at The Royal London Homeopathic Hospital; presently in the musculoskeletal department / rheumatology department but previously worked for five years in the children’s department and for three years in the general medicine department. He now does Western acupuncture at the hospital and is studying for his MSc qualification in this field.

He is happily married with three grown-up children and is interested in all things Spanish with golf and skiing as favourite pastimes.
 
Dr Andy Cohen
Dr Andy Cohen MBChB  DCH  DFFP  MRCGP  MA

Dr Cohen qualified from Leeds Medical School in 2000 having been brought up and schooled in Watford. He spent a year in Australia and finished his GP training in Watford and St Albans.

He enjoys teaching and co-organises a consultation skills course for training GPs. Also enjoys all areas of general practice with a particular interest in paediatrics.

Dr Cohen lives in Bushey with his wife, two bouncing boys and two cats.

 
Dr Isabelle Favot
Dr Isabelle Favot

Dr Favot is a French doctor who has been on the retainer scheme with the surgery since November 1999. She graduated in Marseilles, France in 1987. She has worked in French Guyana, Dominica and Africa.  She also worked for a year in the Royal Free Hospital as a researcher in epidemiology (studying MMR/autism).

Dr Favot has a particular interest in paediatrics and enjoys the multiaspects of general medicine.
 
Dr Elin Jones
Dr Elin Jones

Dr Jones has been a partner at the practice since 1998 and works on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  As well as routine surgeries, she takes part in the well baby clinic and runs a diabetic clinic. She is a qualified GP trainer and often has a GP Registrar under her supervision. 

Dr Jones lives in St Albans and is married with two young children and a dog.

 
Dr Jenny Webster
Dr Jenny Webster

Dr Webster joined the surgery in 2001 and is a ½ time partner. She qualified as a doctor in 1996 from Kings College Hospital, London and did her G.P. training in Welwyn Garden City. She enjoys all aspects of general practice but has a particular interest in diabetes and minor surgery.

Dr Webster lives in Harpenden and is married with two sons.
