GP Registrars
Midway Surgery is part of the St. Albans and Hemel Hempstead VTS (Vocational Training Scheme).
The trainers are Elin Jones and Andy Cohen.
The practice is in a modern, refurbished building on green belt land. It is an established training practice for registrars, medical students and nurses. We have a particularly strong PHCT (Primary Health Care Team). This includes our attached staff of district nurses, health visitors and Macmillan nurses as well as our in-house nurse practitioner, practice nurses and healthcare assistant.
The registrar has his/her own room.
Each week there is protected time to attend the half-day release programme. There is also protected time for a 2-hour tutorial and a free half-day teaching tools used which include video work, joint surgeries and visits.
On call is 1:6 from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm. HUC out-of-hours covers evenings and weekends with shifts in an equal frequency to trainer. Some experience is required for the red eye shift 11 pm - 8 am but there is a limit set for this by the
local trainers’ workshop.
Please address any queries to Dr Elin Jones.
